[apluslist] Books for the APLs like A+

Mark,

APL2 language (not the whole system) is probably the closest to A+. At least
my students whom I teach APL2

and Dyalog ([]ML<-3, almost compatible to APL2) migrate to A+ easy in weeks.

As for book I'd like to remind excellent "APL2 at a glance" by Jim Brown,
Ray Polivka and Sandra Pakin.

Regards,

Sasha.

Mike,

Thanks for the recomendation.

Would you say that APL2 is (or is similar to) the "APL" mentioned

in "Appendix: Some A+ and APL Differences"?

Or is APL2 way different from A+?

Thanks again, Mark

i guess you could try reading "apl2 in depth"

&s=books&n=507846

while it's a different implementation, it does cover nested arrays.

other than that, i can't think of anything. the truly revolutionary thing
about

a+ was the electric gui, which allowed us to build full featured, robust

gui apps with amazing speed and ease. just as we were really getting up

a head of steam, management blew us away - an event vividly depicted

in these recent dilbert strips:

so we never had time to write papers, books, etc. sorry.

Folks,

I have read (some of.) the A+ online doucmentation.
I have it up in my browser.
(And it does help to have it up in
the three frame format so the index is available.)

But the A+ Doc set (excellent as it is) is not enough.
It is great for describing A+ and its commands
and for its (A+) differences from other (STD?) APL
But, it doesn't cover useage much, and it doesn't
  cover examples much.

Knowing that in the past that there were different
approahes to things like nested arrays
(is this still true?), some books about Apl might
not fit the A+ style as well as other books.
With that in mind, What APL books would best
explain APL most like the A+ version of APL?

My old APL360 book probably wouldn't cut
it for a modern APL, even if I could find it.

Pedro has given me some suggestions (thanks)
to follow up on. Are there any other
recommendations for A+ style APL books?

  Thanks, Mark Keil
