Thanks!! According to the Freshmeat web page, 4.20-1 is supposed to
compile with GCC 3.3. I have 3.3.5, so I'm not sure why it didn't compile.

I wouldn't worry about GCC 4.0. My friends on the R development team,
which is *very* active, are waiting for 4.0.1; they've found problems in
4.0 with their code. They were mildly surprised when their 2.1.1 release
compiled and executed on Fedora Core 4.
