Try

Knoppix-Utilities-Install software (while running from CD)

and install KAPL font (from .deb) and XEmacs lisp for A+ development
environment. If it starts
to work then in this version of Quantian something is missed.

You may write to Quantian' author  Dirk Eddelbuettel
(quantian-general at lists.alioth.debian.org)
and tell him that in version 0.5.9.1 it worked, but now you met a problem.
