AFAIK, the only other major company to have developed
a whole programming language internally (complete with
supporting libraries), used it heavily and then open-sourced
it is Ericsson; see http://www.erlang.org/. I would be very 
interested in learning whether MSDW knew of the Erlang 
project and (in the affirmative) whether they feel it has any
relevance to the A+ project (from a PR, corporate etc point
of view, of course, not from a technical one).
